What Is Short Mat Bowls?
Introducing short mat bowls – the perfect indoor sport that combines precision, strategy and skill.
Short mat bowls is played on a flat, rectangular mat (40-45 ft long) and requires players to deliver bowls towards a target ball known as the ‘jack’, aiming to position their bowls as close to the jack as possible. Each match consists of several ends, with teams scoring points based on the number of their bowls that are closest to the jack come the end.
The game requires skill in both technique and strategy, as players must navigate the bias of the bowls and the conditions of the mat, which can vary depending on the mat type and floor surface.

About The Association
The Dorset Short Mat Bowls Association (DSMBA) was founded in 1993, and was formed to promote the game throughout communities within Dorset. The association has a membership of approximately 800 people who play for clubs across the county, some of whom also represent the Dorset County and England Squad each season.
Comprising a diverse membership of clubs and players, the association aims to ensure a welcoming environment for enthusiasts of all skill levels. Through competitive leagues, tournaments, and coaching initiatives, DSMBA strives to help players develop in a both a competitive and social environment.
