The Dorset Open
About The Dorset Open
The Dorset Open is a two day weekend competition run in the heart of beautiful Dorset on the South coast, and has historically been run every year. The weekend has previously featured teams from all corners of the UK as well as Europe!
The weekend consists of Australian pairs (with a twist) on one day, and a conventional fours competition on the other day. For those who have not already had the pleasure of playing Australian Pairs, it is 4 woods per bowler, with players swapping ends after delivering 2 bowls; in a way similar to a typical fours game. The lead plays in positions 1 and 3, and the skip in positions 2 and 4.
This event puts Dorset on the map, offering players the chance to play in two top quality events as well as explore stunning Dorset whilst in the area. Furthermore this weekend allows us to raise funds for important charities.
Dorset Open 2027
The Dorset Open is back!
We are happy to announce the date of the next Dorset Open weekend is 3rd & 4th of April 2027! The event will be held at The Dorset Bowls Resort. For anyone who isn’t already aware, unfortunately we are unable to run the event in 2026 due to venue availability.
The Dorset Open will be help one week before the ESMBA national finals, so it’s a great chance to keep your arm in and get some good practice in a competitive tournament. This is a month earlier than the weekend has been typically run so hopefully it will be a bit cooler as well!
Australian pairs will take place on Saturday 3rd April, and the Fours will be held on Sunday 4th April.
Pairs places will be limited 48 pairs and will be run as a round robin group stage followed by knockouts. The winning pair in the grand final will receive £300! Fours will be the traditional 2 woods per bowler, with places limited to 32 fours. The winning four will receive £600! Furthermore, contributions will be made to two charities associated with the weekend; Wessex Cancer Trust and The Dogs Trust.
